Skiing with the Family on a budget

Skiing with the family on a budget

As a parent of a 3 and 4 year old, and owner of a ski shop in West Roxbury, I have a unique view on this subject. We are always looking for something to do with the kids, and in winter skiing is just what the doctor ordered! Whether it is VT, NH, ME, or MA getting the kids out on the slopes is much healthier and cheaper than buying the latest iPad. There are so many benefits to going skiing ... exercise, meeting new friends, and having something you can do as a family are a few. I don't want to mislead you, skiing can be expensive. But if done right, it isn't any more expensive than ice hockey, it may be cheaper!
The first thing to look at is gear, rentals can become expensive. If you find yourself going more than 2 times, you should be either buying used gear or leasing for the season
To lease gear or to buy used gear is always the way to go. But definitely get it from a ski shop, not random guy on C.L. And NEVER EVER buy used helmets! You can never know what kind of impacts the helmet has had, it is not worth it to save $30 or $40. Buy Used Gear
The other obstacle is lift tickets .... without knowledge they can be very expensive.
Here are the best 2 programs out there, Vermont and New Hampshire have been doing these programs years and they do a great job.
Vermont - 5th Grade Passport
the 5th grade passport is open to 5th grader from any state, not just Vermont, for $10 you get a ton of lift ticket deals!
New Hampshire - 4th and 5th Grade Passport
the NH passport is the same as Vermont with a couple of exceptions 1. it is open to 4th and 5th graders from any state 2. it is $35 for a ton of lift tickets
Now that you have overcome 2 major obstacles, there is only one left. Find the time in your busy schedule! Sorry we don't have any answers for that, but if you do definitely LET US KNOW!
Hope to see you on the slopes!
W.S.
Right now ... it is snowing somewhere
